Joke of the day
Q. What do you call a fish with no eye?
A: A Fsh!
Happy Halloween
Scariest animal (Perspective): Humans, killing 437,000 people a year, it still depends on what humans. Humans like you and me are scary to flies etc. (We are giants to them) but to lions, not really. But, at the same time humans like poachers, are any animal’s WORST NIGHTMARE!
Most dangerous animal: This guy is tiny but deadly. It’s smaller than your finger, smaller than your eye in fact, and it’s, not surprisingly, responsible for the most deaths a year………… A mosquito! Killing 750,000 people a year, mosquitos are tiny but DEADLY!
Animal of the day
Polar bears
Fun facts:
This is the largest land carnivore!
Their fur is actually black, but the fur reflects light and looks white!
Male polar bears are also the weight of 10 grown men!
It is so strong in fact, in can kill a human from 1 punch of its paw!
Fact file:
Status: Vulnerable Kingdom: Animalia Phylum: Chordata Class: Mammalia Order: Carnivora Family: Ursidae Genus: Ursus Species: U. maritimus
Scientific name: Ursus martimus
Prey: Seals, bird eggs, berries, young walruses, dead whales, seabirds.
Habitat: Alaska, Russia, Greenland, Norway, Canada (Artic region)
Length: Male reach 8-10 feet, while females reach 6-8 feet.
Adjusting temperature
Due to climate change, and the bear’s thick fur, it tends to overheat, so to avoid this, they move as slowly as possible. Blubber, a layer of fat around its skin covers the polar bear. It reaches to around 10 CM! And it also has a fur coat 5 cm thick! (Offfffff) This protects it on land and water, and when it gets to cold, the bear digs a hole and curls up.🐻❄️!
Did you know from a distance, sometimes the fur can look yellow!
Swimming
Polar bears are expert swimmers! They can swim at 10 kilometres a hour, and can keep this up for 10 hours! While they are known for for diving, they can’t dive very deep. They have webbed paws. The back legs help it steer and the front to help them paddle through the water. They can swim with their eyes open!
Cubs
The polar bear cubs are born near November and early January(Now!), when they are born, they are blind, and just weigh 0.6 kgs! The mother normally produces 2 cubs, and they leave when they are about 2 and a half years old. They grow the most during there first and second years. Unlike some other bears, who would sometimes eat their cubs if they are hungry, polar bears will do anything to protect their cubs!
Life
For a house, they make a tunnel out of soft snow, with a den for the cubs. Polar bears are one of the strongest and best hunters from bears. Their favourite prey is ringed seals, they usually wait near its breathing hole and pounce out to attack it. They have a good sense of smell, and they can detect a seals breathing hole from 1 km away! When they get angry, they warn others by hissing, snorting, growling and sometimes even roaring!
Threats
1.Humans: As they are poached for there fur, or teeth, or when due to ice melting they go to cities to find food. (When polar bears come to cities, the law is they get sent to polar bear prison for a while, but in fear some people kill it 😞.)
2.Climate change: One of their main threats is climate change (It is caused by humans so technically it is humans but…) it causes ice melting, so it’s harder to find food and they have less space, then it’s getting to hot for the polar bears with their thick fur, and glaciers and that can cause them injuries. Climate change can also cause lots of other problems, but those are the main ones!
Message from the desk and what has been happening at NPRO
Dear readers,
I hope you are enjoying this. As you can see we have made a few changes, and designed it more like a newsletter, so it’s a mix now. The web is going good, as we mentioned last time it is delayed. The book is also doing good, hopefully it will come sooner than expected! Plus it’s going to be longer than we thought, it’s already 40 pages! There might be more books in the series later on!
Also here’s a short 30 second “coming soon” video on the book (Click on this to view)
If you’re liking this, why not share and spread awareness to others, and spread this to those who might enjoy!
Also wishing everyone a happy belated Diwali! I am happy of the fact the government has banned fireworks in Delhi, and I hope you are also not bursting fireworks!
Regards,
Anirudh, founder of NPRO

2.Type it on comments
3. In the next issue go to the ‘Requested by the readers’ column and it will be there!

Diwali
Problem: People are giving lots of gifts and that means lots of packaging, with things like plastic
Affect: More pollution, and since they make it in a factory them more CO2 emissions
Solution: Use eco-friendly packaging, and instead of buying many small small gifts buy a huge gift for them to share.
Problem: Fireworks
Affect: This can result in animals getting injured or killed, sound pollution, and air pollution
Solution: Burst only 1 firework for many people to share, or use a sparkler, or better yet, just light a dia!
Problem: Shopping
Affect: Lots of cars, resulting to lots of CO2 emissions
Solution: Walk or cycle to a nearby store instead
Problem: Lights
Affect: More CO2 emissions
Solution: Instead of lighting 2-5 lights just light one, and instead of keeping it till Christmas just keep it till Diwali and put it again in Christmas!
Seattle rains
Recently a forest in Seattle had caught fire, and they were not able to put it off. The fire, fortunately did not cause to much damage, but it polluted the air a lot, making Seattle into the top 5 most polluted cities. And the rains were getting delayed, but fortunately after a few days the rains came and finally put it off!
Birds adapting to city life
Problem:Birds are losing there habitat
Cause: Due to de-forestation, agriculture, and overpopulation
Affect: Birds are getting stuck in buildings, and building homes in places like buildings.
Example: A sparrow had gotten stuck in a table tennis court, and some NPRO members and security guards had to rescue it
Example: In an apartment there was a hole for pipes and stuff, so some sparrows made a nest there!
Solutions:
Set up a bird feeder
Spread awareness
Set up birdhouses
Provide a clean source of water for birds!
Special thanks
I would also like to thank Satyajit, the writer of Curiosity>Certainty for 2 reasons:
1.He introduced us to Substack, so without him we would never have been able to share this with you!
2.He has helped share 5 people, the NPRO newsletter by recommending us!
And he also has an amazing(Much better then this) newsletter called Curiosity>Certainty! He has over 70 issues! It’s mostly about thinking in a different and better way. And in this topic I would also like to suggest some more newsletters:
1.Not just Pooh, Pan and potter:This is a newsletter by Rati, who used to be a news reporter and now recommends books, and also the mother of 2 NPRO members(Kabir and Karthik), and it is legendary!
2.Adhira:Adhira is, the author of Adhira, and she is also a NPRO member, and she has posted a issue on Vinayak Chaturthi, and Fossils is coming soon!
Don’t forget to subscribe to stay up-to date, and share with others who might enjoy it to!
